   Furnaces and casting lines are the capital core, and energy is a dominant operating cost, so size your melt capacity to your contracted demand and run it efficiently. Idle furnace capacity and poor energy management erase already thin margins. The economics reward high, steady utilization against firm off-take, not speculative capacity.

   Contract downstream buyers before you scale

   Casters, foundries, extruders, and mills buy secondary aluminum to alloy spec, often under supply contracts. Lock in who buys your ingot or molten metal and to what specs before building capacity, so your furnaces run against real demand. The spread between scrap-aluminum input cost and alloyed-product price, minus energy and losses, is the margin you must protect.
