   Treat stage time like a job requirement

   Three to five open mics a week, every week. Comedy is a repetition trade: the comics who get good are the ones on stage 200-plus times a year, and open mics are free. Keep the day job; realistically the first one to two years pay nothing.

   Write daily and record every set

   A phone recording of every set, reviewed the next day, is the fastest teacher in comedy. Keep a joke file, track what hits, and rewrite relentlessly. Your goal is a tight 15 minutes that works in any room, because that is the unit bookers buy first.

   Turn funny into paid work in the real order

   Guest spots commonly pay $25 to $100, hosting a show pays roughly $50 to $150 a night, and feature work (the middle act) commonly runs $150 to $300 per show or a few hundred for a club weekend. Headliners with a draw earn $500 to $2,500-plus per club weekend. Nobody skips the ladder; climb it on purpose.

   Build the clip engine

   Crowd-work and bit clips on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts are how modern comics build a draw, and a draw is what moves you from being paid by bookers to selling your own tickets. Film every set in decent light and sound, post consistently, and plan announcements with the Social Media Studio (/social).

   Add the clean, high-paying lane

   A polished, clean 30 to 45 minutes opens corporate events, colleges, churches, cruise ships, and fundraisers, which commonly pay $500 to $5,000-plus per show while bar spots pay $50. Most comics refuse to build a clean set; the ones who do fund the whole career with it.

   Own an audience, not just a schedule
