   The credible design: a user completes verification once with a licensed identity verification provider, receives a cryptographically signed credential (W3C verifiable credentials and the surrounding standards), and presents proofs selectively (over 18, verified resident, sanctions-cleared) without re-uploading documents. Blockchain plays the integrity-and-revocation role, not a store of personal data; putting PII on-chain is the amateur mistake that ends the conversation with every compliance team.

   Understand whose regulatory burden you carry

   Your customers (exchanges, fintechs, lenders) remain legally responsible for their KYC; regulators allow reliance on third parties only under specific conditions. Your product is therefore evidence and auditability: documented verification standards, liability terms, revocation handling, and data protection compliance (state privacy laws, GDPR for any EU reach, biometric-data statutes like Illinois BIPA if face matching is involved).    Crypto exchanges (Travel Rule counterparty data is a natural fit), fintech and lending onboarding, marketplaces and gig platforms with seller verification, age-gated commerce, and eventually the enterprise 'verify once across our own twelve products' sale, which is often the easiest first market of all. Each corridor compounds the credential's value for users.

   This is a venture-scale or patient-capital business: standards work, security audits, SOC 2, and enterprise sales cycles precede meaningful revenue.
