   Understand how this differs from starting a podcast

   The platform's podcast business cards cover launching and monetizing one show. A network is a different business: you are building a media company whose product is a SLATE of shows plus the connective tissue between them (shared brand, cross-promotion, bundled ad sales, shared production). One great show can join a network; running the network is programming, sales, and operations more than hosting.

   Theme the network around one audience, not one topic

   The networks that work own a person, not a subject: shows for first-time founders, for nurses, for a city, for a fandom. When every show serves the same person from a different angle, cross-promotion actually converts (a listener of one show is a genuine prospect for the others) and advertisers understand instantly what they are buying.

   Build the slate: create, recruit, or both

   Three routes to shows: produce originals yourself, recruit existing small shows in your theme onto the network (they keep creative control, you handle promotion and sales for a revenue share), or partner with experts who want a show but need a producer. Two or three shows is a real network; launch with fewer than five so quality and cadence survive.

   The network's first product is growth: standing promo swaps between shows, feed drops of new show trailers, guest exchanges between hosts, and a shared newsletter that moves listeners across the slate. This machinery is what a solo show cannot replicate, so build it as infrastructure with a calendar, not as occasional favors.

   Sell host-read ads as a bundle

   Host-read ads are podcasting's premium unit because the audience trusts the voice reading them. As a network you sell advertisers reach across several shows with one contract, one invoice, and one point of contact, which is exactly what small sponsors want and individual hosts cannot offer. Podcast ads are commonly priced per thousand downloads, with host-read rates at a premium to announcer spots; be straight with sponsors about real download numbers, because inflated stats end network careers.

   Set the money splits in writing before the money exists

   For recruited shows, agree the revenue share, who owns the feed and back catalog, and what happens if a show leaves, all in a signed agreement while everyone is still friendly. Ambiguity here has broken more networks than bad content ever has.

   Diversify beyond the ad market

   Ad budgets swing, so layer in the other lanes as the audience grows: listener memberships across the network, live events, branded show production for companies (a service the network's portfolio sells for you), and licensing the back catalog. A network with three income streams survives the sponsor drought that kills ad-only slates.
