Overpromising (guaranteeing a horse will win or fixing a dangerous horse fast) is how trainers lose clients and get hurt; underpromising and showing steady progress is how you fill a waitlist.

   A working trainer naturally adds lessons and clinics, sale-horse commissions (developing and reselling horses, or brokering for clients), coaching clients at shows, and eventually taking on an assistant or working student to leverage your time.
