   Draw the scope line carefully

   This is skills coaching for conflict and anger between partners, not clinical couples therapy, unless you are a licensed therapist. As a non-clinical coach you teach de-escalation, communication, and repair; you do not treat relationship disorders or clinical conditions. Screen out situations that need clinical care or that involve abuse, and be explicit about the boundary. Where there is any sign of intimate-partner violence, this program is not appropriate and you refer to specialized resources.

   Build a couples conflict curriculum

   Design content on the escalation cycle between partners, individual triggers, timeouts and de-escalation, listening and repair, and preventing flooding. Skills for two people differ from an individual class because each partner affects the other in real time. Give couples structured practice they can use during real disagreements.

   Screen for safety first

   Anger between partners can shade into abuse, and joint sessions are unsafe and inappropriate where intimate-partner violence is present. Build a careful intake and screening process, and have specialized referral resources ready. This safety screening is an ethical requirement, not an option, and it is what separates a responsible couples program from a reckless one.

   Get credentialed and covered

   A coaching or facilitator certification, and relationship-coaching training, strengthen your method and credibility. Set clear policies and carry appropriate liability coverage. Be transparent that this is coaching, not licensed therapy, and not insurance-billable.

   Serve voluntary couples flexibly

   Voluntary couples reach you through content about fighting less and communicating better. Offer one-on-one couple sessions and small structured group programs, by video or in person. Package it as a multi-session program so couples get real change and you get predictable revenue.

   Refer up when needed

   Some couples need clinical couples therapy, individual therapy, or, in abuse situations, specialized intervention. Referring appropriately is a sign of competence and keeps everyone safe. Keep a current referral list of licensed couples therapists and domestic-violence resources.
