   Learn the three venue deals

   Flat rental (you pay $200 to $1,500-plus for the room and keep the door), door split (venue takes 20 to 40 percent of tickets, no upfront), and the bar deal (free room, venue keeps drinks). Rentals have the highest upside and the highest risk; start with splits and bar deals until your presale instincts are proven.

   Book talent with honest math

   Regional headliners with a following commonly quote $500 to $2,500 guarantees, or a guarantee-versus-split deal (for example $750 or 60 percent of the door, whichever is greater). The comic's social following in your city matters more than credits; a comic with 200,000 engaged followers sells tickets a TV credit no longer does.

   Build the show budget before announcing

   A 200-seat room at $25 grosses $5,000 sold out. Subtract the headliner, support acts ($50 to $150 each), venue, ticketing fees (commonly 5 to 10 percent), insurance, and marketing, and know your break-even seat count on paper. If break-even is above 70 percent of capacity, change the deal or the room.

   Treat presales as the decision system

   Announce six to eight weeks out, watch presales weekly, and set a go or no-go date in your venue and talent agreements. Slow presales mean more marketing spend or a smaller room, not hope. Every ticket at the door should feel like a bonus, not the plan.

   Market with the comic, not just for them

   The booking should include the comic posting your ticket link on their own channels; their audience is the draw you are paying for. Layer on local social clips, radio and podcast spots, and your own growing email list of past ticket buyers, coordinated through the Social Media Studio (/social).

   Compound into a market position

   Every show adds ticket-buyer emails, venue trust, and agent relationships. Producers who run five to ten solid shows a year become the default call for their market, and add revenue layers: show sponsorships ($250 to $1,000-plus per show), a cut of merch tables, and eventually multi-city runs with the same headliner.
