   Buy a compliant machine and set up processing

   A new freestanding ATM runs $2,000 to $3,500 and refurbished units run less; every machine must meet current ADA and EMV chip requirements, so be careful with older used units.    Plan the vault cash and the loading routine

   The cash in the machine is yours: most owners float $1,000 to $3,000 per machine and refill weekly or biweekly as withdrawals recycle it back to their bank account. Build a boring, consistent loading routine, vary your schedule for safety, and keep clean records because every dollar in and out must reconcile. This float is a real startup cost; budget it alongside the machine.

   Sign a simple placement agreement

   One page: who owns the machine, what the host earns per transaction, who provides power and space, and how either side exits with 30 days notice. Offer a revenue share instead of rent so the host only earns when the machine performs. Property managers and shop owners say yes to easy.

   Build the route one machine at a time

   Reinvest surcharge income into the next placement. A route of five to ten placed machines serviced on one loading day a week is a genuinely semi-passive income stream, and underperforming locations can be moved: the machine is an asset, the location is a test.
